This Cookie Policy explains how De Klerk Turner Incorporated (“DKT”) uses cookies and similar technologies on dkt-inc.co.za, what each one does, how long it lasts, and how you can change the choices you have made. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device when you visit a website. It allows the site to remember things about your visit — for example, whether you have already made a cookie choice, so the banner does not reappear on every page. Some cookies are essential for the site to work; others are optional and only used if you agree.
2. Why we use them
DKT uses cookies for two reasons only:
- To make the website work — for example, to remember your cookie choice so the banner does not re-appear on every page.
- To understand, in aggregate, how the site is used so that we can improve it over time. This is done through Google Analytics 4 and only with your consent.
We do not use cookies to identify individual visitors, build advertising profiles, or sell data.
3. The categories we use
We group cookies into four categories. Strictly necessary cookies are always on; the other three are off by default and only activated if you opt in.
3.1 Strictly necessary
Required for the site to operate. These are exempt from the consent requirement under POPIA because the site cannot function without them. They cannot be turned off from within the consent banner.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
dkt_consent_v1 |
dkt-inc.co.za | Stores your cookie-consent choice so the banner is not shown to you on every page or visit. | localStorage (first-party) | Persists until you clear browser site data, or click “Cookie settings” and choose again. |
3.2 Analytics
Only set if you opt in. Used to count visits and pages viewed in aggregate, so we can see which pages are useful and which are not. Provided by Google Analytics 4, configured with IP anonymisation and without Google Signals.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
_ga |
Google LLC | Distinguishes unique browsers so visits can be counted without identifying you. | HTTP cookie (first-party, set by Google's script) | 2 years |
_ga_KCGFJGNH30 |
Google LLC | Persists session state for the DKT property so individual sessions are counted correctly. | HTTP cookie (first-party, set by Google's script) | 2 years |
Analytics data is aggregated and non-identifying. Google retains it in accordance with its own data-retention settings; further detail is in our Privacy Policy.
3.3 Marketing
Only set if you opt in. DKT does not currently run paid advertising campaigns, so no marketing cookies are placed on your device today. This category is declared so that the framework is in place if the firm later runs a campaign (for example through Google Ads or LinkedIn). If that changes, this policy will be updated and the cookies in question will be listed here before any are set.
3.4 Preferences
Only set if you opt in. Reserved for non-essential interface preferences — for example, a saved practice-area filter on the Insights page, or a remembered "name" pre-fill in the contact form. No preference cookies are currently in use. If we introduce any in the future, this policy will be updated and listed here before they are set.
4. Third-party providers
The only third-party service that may set cookies on this site is Google LLC, in respect of Google Analytics 4. Google acts as our processor (operator) under POPIA and Google's privacy policy applies to its own processing. Google's servers are global; further information on cross-border transfers is in Section 6 of our Privacy Policy.
No social-media tracking pixels, marketing networks or chat widgets currently set cookies on this site.
5. How to change your mind
You can change your cookie choices at any time. The fastest way is the Cookie Preferences link in the footer of every page on this site, which re-opens the preferences panel and lets you turn each category on or off and save. Your new choice takes effect immediately and is broadcast to Google Consent Mode v2 on the next page load.
If you reject analytics after previously accepting, your existing analytics cookies will stop being read; you can also clear them through your browser's site-data controls (see Section 6 below).
6. Browser-level controls
You can also manage cookies through your browser, independently of the banner on this site:
If your browser sends a “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a rejection of non-essential cookies. Note that blocking all cookies at browser level — including strictly necessary ones — will cause the consent banner to reappear on every visit, as we cannot store your choice.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time — for example, when we add a new tool, change a cookie's duration, or stop using a provider. The effective date at the top of this page shows when the policy was last updated. Where a change introduces new cookies or new categories, we will surface the banner again so that you can review your choices.
8. Contact
For questions about this Cookie Policy or our use of cookies, please contact the Information Officer, Tygue Turner, at info@dkt-inc.co.za or +27 21 330 5757. Your rights under POPIA, and how to complain to the Information Regulator, are set out in our Privacy Policy.
