Jason leads the firm's commercial litigation and dispute resolution practice. His approach is methodical rather than theatrical — cases are worked up as if they will be litigated to judgment, because that depth of preparation is what creates the conditions for a favourable outcome.
He acts for businesses, directors and shareholders in high-stakes commercial disputes across the High Court, arbitration, the Supreme Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court. His practice is built around urgent applications, contractual and shareholder disputes, and liquidation and business rescue applications. Where matters go to trial, he is ready. Where they do not, the client has negotiated from strength.
He began his career at Huxtable Attorneys in Makhanda (Grahamstown) — where he first met his co-director, Tygue Turner — and was admitted as an attorney in May 2019. He holds an LLB from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, conferred in April 2017. He subsequently joined Bax Kaplan Russell Incorporated in East London, where he headed the litigation department, before co-founding De Klerk Turner in Cape Town.

When a family is administering a deceased estate, the last thing they need is to be drawn into every complexity along the way. Tygue takes charge, handles the hard conversations on their behalf, and keeps the process moving. The same approach carries across his practice: he is measured rather than reactive, and where a sensible resolution is available, he will find it. Litigation is a cost, and he is clear-eyed about that. Where the matter requires a fight, he is prepared.
As a practising notary public, he draws antenuptial contracts and attends to the full range of notarial work — frequently for families and individuals he already knows through the estates practice. That continuity matters to him. He would rather be the attorney a client calls first than the one called in after the fact.
He developed his practice during articles at Dold and Stone in Makhanda (Grahamstown) — where he first met his co-director, Jason De Klerk — and holds a BA from the University of Cape Town and an LLB from the University of South Africa. Before co-founding De Klerk Turner, he headed the estates department at Bax Kaplan Russell Incorporated in East London, working alongside Jason who headed litigation. His matters have included estates running to nine figures, matters involving sitting members of the judiciary, and estates with UK-domiciled beneficiaries and offshore assets.
